Helmut Lang, born in 1956 in Vienna, is not only my personal hero – he was (and is) the master of modern fashion. He changed our perspective to look at, to feel and wear clothes. Designer always took inspiration from his anticipated nineties shows but more than ever before we can see his influence of modernism on the catwalk all over the world. Lang stepped back from his role at his own house and concentrated on art in 2005. Vogue.com in collaboration with the Helmut Lang Studio brings back some of his outstanding shows.
Looking through the shows from 1998 to 2000 sum up how important his creations have been for that time. If you would take the same clothes and show those in Paris with nowadays it-girls noone could tell that these clothes have been designed more than a decade ago.
Helmut Lang shaped the fashion world forever. His designs that were both beautiful and wearable at the same time made fashion accessible for everyone. His eponymous effort to create a modern uniform made him one of the most important designers and made his fashion live forever.
